moving right along...
Oct. 15th, 2019 01:43 pmNot a whole lot going on in my corner of the world, to be honest, but here I am anyway.
The weather continues to be perfect. We actually had to switch the heat on over the weekend, and we’ll probably be leaving it on here a some point in the near future. It’s supposed to be a bit warmer today, but then cool down again after some rain tomorrow. I am all for it. I love autumn, and this year’s is shaping up to be quite nice. :)
I got my flu shot last week. First time ever getting it, too. It kind of knocked me out for a couple days, but other than a touch of fatigue and soreness at the injection site, it wasn’t too bad. And now I’m hopefully protected from this year’s flu strain! Though I guess it could be like the last couple of years, where the strain has been a rapidly mutating one and the vaccine doesn’t offer enough protection... but here’s hoping it isn’t. Or if it is, that I do not catch it. I had the flu once, in ninth grade, and it SUCKED. So I would like to avoid repeating that experience.
I got the supplies for my other cross-stitch projects! So I’ve started on both of those. They’re going to be challenging for different reasons, I think. The Rivendell poster is full coverage, which means every square on the chart is a stitch, so that’s gonna be a bit of a marathon. Meanwhile the pattern I selected for my SIL has 20 different colors, which means a lot of starting and stopping. I’m having fun so far, though, and I’m making sure to take breaks so I don’t totally burn myself out. Christmas is like 70 days away, after all, and I’d like to get these done.
You know what else is approaching? NaNoWriMo! Which I think I am going to do this year, though I have no idea what wordcount I will be shooting for. 50k seems a little insane, especially since I haven’t really written anything in weeks except a couple prompt fills. So like... 10k, maybe? I don’t know. I’m using an old novel idea that I did for NaNo about 10 years ago. That particular draft got lost when my hard drive fried a couple years later, and I’ve done a lot of development on it since, so... it’s basically like a whole new story, right? Right.
As I said, I am trying to get back into the writing groove by doing prompt fills for
100words,
ficlets, and
shortfics. I did a few iterations on an idea for one on Friday. And I started a longer fill last night that I’m hoping to finish today. I would like to get back in the habit of writing most every day, so hopefully this prep and NaNo itself will be a good conduit for that.
Not much else going on. My mom and niece’s birthday is next week, and mine is the week after that. (Yes, they have the same birthday. My mom basically got the best birthday present ever: a grandchild. :P ) I’m hoping that I get what I asked for for my birthday: a Switch Lite. Fingers crossed, I guess. I also don’t know how to feel about turning thirty, which is just a whole Thing, isn’t it? I know it isn’t that bad, but... yeah. Curse the inevitable forward march of time, etc. I’ll live.
Hope you all are doing well, as ever.

Date: 2019-10-15 09:09 pm (UTC)yaaaaaaay nice weather. it's nice here too. I have also had to turn on the heat a few times. I wore the flannel top I picked up months ago for the first time today. I got a bit warm because I was being relatively active when I was out. would be better on a colder day, for sure.
I've never gotten a flu shot... nor have I ever had the flu. a cold's bad enough, and I seem to get one almost every year. was a spring/summer one this year. was awful.
full coverage cross stitch sounds really tough. definitely don't get burned out!
and if you do Nanowrimo, try to take it relatively easy. :)
my mom keeps saying she's going to get me a Switch, but I've been pulled around for some time now. I just suck at waiting... but also it'd be nice if she could say one thing and it'd be certain. it's just annoying on the level of being consistently promised, and it being pushed farther and farther away. catching up is gonna be obnoxious. I'm gonna have to work on that with my own money once I get the console and whatever games mom gets me. I just wanna play Sploon 2 and Mario Maker ;_; well, and more. :V but especially those rn.
I survived turning 30, you can too! :') I wasn't even bothered about it at all, but I can understand why others might be. it is a little daunting. for some people, there's also a bigger fear of judgment regarding interests and hobbies. I hate the lack of consistency with people and that sort of judgment/lack thereof. it's like you never know.
I also hope you get the Switch Lite. it'd be nice if I only wanted one for handheld purposes, then I could get the Switch Lite myself. but I don't plan on using handheld much, and want a pro controller. so regular Switch it is.

Date: 2019-10-16 09:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, I am trying to take the cross stitch projects at my own pace. I’ve got plenty of time, and it’s not like my brother or SIL are going to be super upset if they have to wait a little bit for their gifts. Also yeah, I am going to have to figure out a balance between this and NaNo.
I guess part of what I’m so anxious/upset/whatever about turning 30 is that I feel like I have to have Done Something With My Life by this point, and I really, really have not. I guess it’s more of an anxiety response than anything; I’m worried I’m falling behind “in class”, as if that means anything anymore. I’ll get over it. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
I mostly play video games handheld anyway, so when they announced the Switch Lite, I was super glad, because I was afraid if I got a regular Switch, I would never play it. I’ve got a WiiU that never gets played because the whole rigmarole of turning it on and such is just tiring to think about. While powering on my 3DS is a snap. So a handheld Switch sounds right up my alley. :D

Date: 2019-10-17 05:15 am (UTC)oh, I see. I've totally felt that over the past few years a little bit. tho I tend to only feel that way when my mom brings up what other people are doing with their lives. but I just live my own life, and it happens to be different. and that's ok too. but yeah, I feel you there for sure. it'll be ok!
well, that's good! I've really never been a huge fan of handhelds, kinda begrudgingly get them because not everything's on console. but I usually only keep them at home, so it feels like there's not much point in 'em... to me, at least. plus I have this issue where it feels like the inside of my 3DS is always dirty??? like, I clean it and it stays clean for a bit... but then all of a sudden, it's all dirty again! I actually still plan on getting a New 2DS because I can't escape the grasp 3DS games have on me. Kirby Planet Robobot is a must... among other things. plus it's the white and orange one... yaaaaaaaaay orange. since it's got bigger screens, I'm sure it'll be more enjoyable to play. plus I don't like the black interior part on the top half of my 3DS. 'cause then you can see all the stuff that gets on it waaaaaaay more. lol I've been saving up for that.
