[personal profile] universalme was handing out three topics on her journal, so I decided to take part. :)

Animation

I have loved the medium of animation since I was a child, and I've stayed fascinated with it well into adulthood. I grew up during the Disney Renaissance, which definitely had an effect on me. Mostly I like animation because it's a freeing medium--you can do just about anything you want, without having to worry if it's dangerous for the actors or anything like that. I would say hand-drawn animation is even more freeing, but unfortunately it's out of vogue for some reason in American film. More's the pity.

Hyperbole and a Half

HaaH is a webcomic-type thing by Allie Brosh that also spawned a book. They are both hilarious. You can check out the site here at this link. I don't have a lot to say about this.

Science Fiction

I like science fiction? Not... well. Certainly I like it soft, not hard (so Star Wars more than Star Trek). I like the potential of things like starships and time travel. I love Doctor Who. I feel like we need more science fiction in animation (I LOVE Treasure Planet and Atlantis from Disney, for example), especially sf that falls more on the side of drama than comedy. I don't know.

My brain isn't working right today. Sorry if these are a little spare.

Treasure Planet and Atlantis were (and still are) two of my absolute favorite Disney movies--Treasure Planet especially is just beautifully animated, and the story gets me every time.

I like your point about the limits you get rid of with animation! I also agree that the disappearance of hand-drawn animation in American film is a total shame.

Could I maybe ask for three topics from you? This meme seems pretty cool!

Yeah, I agree about the studio not exactly helping either movie, and you're not the first person who's pointed out that they kind of set themselves up for failure. Unfortunately, I agree that CGI is the new standard, and yeah, it's a shame.

And thank you for the topics! I can work with these, for sure!
