summer patio garden!!
May. 8th, 2019 08:27 amSo for the last few years, I've planted vegetables in planters on our patio. Last year I had great success with zucchini and tomatoes, as well as some mild peppers. The zucchini were cut short by an infestation of squash bugs, unfortunately, but all in all it was a nicely productive summer for me.
This year I've gotten one additional patio planter, in addition to the two I had last year. I'm planting just zucchini and tomatoes, and I'm also attempting to start some sugar pumpkins from seed. I know what to look for with the squash bugs this year, so hopefully with constant vigilance I'll come out ahead of them.
I'm really excited. I always get this way at the start of the growing season, which I guess is understandable, since everything's shiny and new. I am hoping for lots of zucchini and tomatoes (I planted some Roma again this year, and an hybrid variety called Early Girl), and I really hope I can get the pumpkin to grow and give me at least a couple fruits. I've done a little research on growing pumpkins in beds, and it looks like I'll probably have to prune flowers a lot so I can get the plant to concentrate on just a couple of fruits.
Anyway, here's hoping it all goes nicely. I'll get some pictures up on my Instagram here soon, maybe after the pumpkin seeds have germinated.
