And then crochet ate my life.
Oct. 25th, 2017 08:17 amI really need to get a knitting/crochet/fiber arts icon. I am doing so much of it lately. >__>
So after my last post I got kind of single-mindedly obsessed with making amigurumi (which is a portmanteau of the Japanese words for "knitted/crocheted" and "stuffed toy"? I think?). You can see all my various projects on my Instagram [link]. (And also a picture of the cupcakes my sister and I decorated for my niece's birthday party.) I am having a lot of fun with it, but I think I'm going to start winding down my output, since my hands and wrists are starting to protest. I know for a fact that I'm not holding the working yarn the right way, but it's the only way that feels natural to me, and unfortunately it's not really great for my left hand. Which is the one I do almost everything with, which is not good. So... definitely scaling things back in that department.
I wish I could say there's other news, but there really isn't? The last like five days have mostly been crochet and Stardew Valley, both of which are fun, but do not make for entirely scintillating conversation. Whoops. I have made a lot of progress on Stardew, though. One of the objects of the game is to restore the town's community center, which you do by giving these adorable forest creatures different items for bundles. I have finished all the bundle packs except one, and I only need three more things to finish the last one. I'll definitely have it done before the end of Year 2 in-game, which is awesome as heck. So I'm excited about that.
But as far as other stuff that needs to get done: well, I need to clean my room. Badly. I'm planning on throwing out a lot of stuff I don't need (mostly old yarn I'm not gonna use [Red Heart is kind of the worst yarn ever] and some fondant projects from several years ago that are also never going to be used on anything) so I have room for things I want to keep. I probably need to vacuum up a lot of dust and cat sand and stuff.
I also need to finish my short story before NaNoWriMo begins. I'm not doing NaNo very seriously this year--definitely not shooting for 50k at all--but I would like to get this story finished before it starts, so I can concentrate fully on finishing The Outpost. (If I manage to write another 50k on this fic I will WEEP. IT'S ALREADY LONG ENOUGH DAMMIT.)
I have a bunch of ebooks out from the library that I need to finish. And start, even. Yikes.
At the same time, I need to keep my expectations on the day-to-day realistic. I can't except the world of myself, because there's only so much energy I've got to spare each day. I can definitely manage what I do with the energy I've got (like not spending it all on crochet, for example), but... adjust the expectations. I can't do everything every day. So... deal with it, I guess.
Anyway, I guess that's all from me for right now. I'll try to get back to post every day (or at least every other day), but I make no guarantees. :P

Date: 2017-10-26 11:53 am (UTC)I'm still seriously considering saving up for a PS4, and honestly, your talk of Stardew Valley has been a big part of that, haha... (It also wouldn't hurt to expand my gaming/start playing on more recent systems, with my GameStop job and all that.)
I feel the room cleaning pain; I did a major cleaning earlier in the year. Best of luck with that! Feel free to message me for moral support, lol. And best of luck with your short story, too!
I also have the 'so many books, so little time before I need to return them' thing going on. I got this app called Hoopla that uses one's library card to get out ebooks, although I think it's more focused on audiobooks and music. There's movies, too, though? The point is, I somehow thought that taking out "No Plot? No Problem!", "Pride and Prejudice", and the first "Percy Jackson" book at the same time was a great idea. It was not a great idea. (I am enjoying "No Plot? No Problem!" a great deal, but haven't touched the other two.)
Yeah, realistic expectations are important. Hard to apply to oneself, though, I think. Idk, I always find it helpful to think, "Would I except this much of [insert friend or family member here]?".

Date: 2017-10-26 02:37 pm (UTC)You shoullllld get Stardew Valley. It's so much fun! There's tons to do in game and the overall style is just very cute. I love it a lot. :)
My library started doing the ebooks thing a couple years back, and I love it, because the library unfortunately only has so many books (and there are a lot that are in storage, since their old downtown building has a crumbling foundation and the new location is only so big). It's nice to have a bigger selection, though the ebook library doesn't have everything. It's still nice. And I really need to sit down and read for a spell.
No Plot? No Problem! is a lot of fun. I haven't gotten a look at the new edition (I think I got a copy not too long after it was first released, back in '05 or '06?), but there's a lot of good advice in there. I hope you manage to get Pride and Prejudice read, too! It's such a great book, and it's a classic for good reason. :)

Date: 2017-10-28 11:24 am (UTC)I'm... Actually not sure how many of the ebooks offered through my library system are actually at my local library, since CT has the Lion Library system, where you can request books from... I think any library in the state? At least any in the shoreline area. Which is great, because yeah, a single library really can only hold so much. (And my town's library seems to rotate things in and out of storage in a way I can't make heads or tails of.)
I really love the way No Plot? No Problem is written! I'm reading the new edition, I think? It's getting me so excited for November. Which is really close, anyway, my goodness. I read Pride and Prejudice back in middle school, but I don't remember it that well at all - I remember really liking it, though! (It also might have been abridged; this was pretty early in middle school.) So I'm excited to give it another chance. Another classic I'd like to re-read is Little Women, because I definitely remember loving that in middle school.
